The Organic Lapsang Souchong China Black Tea blend from English Tea Store boasts a smoky aroma and flavor. Its creation is credited to the thick, rough-looking Souchong leaves that are withered over burning pine bows. Next, the leaves are placed in barrels, covered with cloth, and allowed to ferment.

There is more than one story for the creation of Lapsang Souchong tea. One states that during the Qing Dynasty, an army unit passing through a small village decided to camp at a tea factory. When they left, the workers worried that the tea would not be dried for the next day's market, so they dried it over a fire. Another story takes place aboard an English Clipper enroute from China with a shipment of Fujian tea. Waves breaking over the deck thoroughly soaked the tea, so sailors dried the tea in pans over a campfire.

This tea is certified USDA and QMI Organic. Lapsang Souchong can deliver an overwhelming flavor, so it is recommended that it steep for slightly less time than other black teas.
