The Brown Betty design dates back to the end of the 17th century, when red clays from the Bradell Woods in Staffordshire, England, were first used to make ceramic teapots. Both brands are handmade glazed clay teapots from Staffordshire. Many in Great Britain believe it's the type of clay that's used and the distinctive shape of the Betty pot that makes the best pot of tea. The 8-cup Cobalt Betty will hold up to 40 fluid ounces. The Genuine Brown Betty will hold up to 48 fluid ounces.
