Brown Betty Christmas Pudding Teapot: Embracing Tradition & Infusing Holiday Spirit

The legendary Brown Betty is in the holiday spirit as it resembles a long time favorite treat, Christmas Pudding. Sure to become a treasured holiday teapot, the Brown Betty is lovingly hand-made in Staffordshire England (from Cauldon Ceramics Ltd), made in Stoke-on-Trent with the same clay from the original area. British people believe the Brown Betty makes the best pot of tea because of the type of clay that is used and the shape of the pot.

Resembling a Christmas (or plum) pudding, which s a combination of nutmegs, raisins, nuts, apples, cinnamon, dates, and many other ingredients to a batter, the lid then features a topping of clotted cream or brandy butter (whichever is usually your Christmas Pudding preference. The final holly and berry accent is sure to put everyone in the holiday mood.

The 6 cup Brown Betty holds approximately 36 fluid ounces. These teapots are not intended for use in a microwave or on a stovetop. We recommend an electric tea kettle to boil the water for brewing your tea. Brown Bettys are dishwasher safe, however the best care is to rinse in hot water and allow to air dry.

Dimensions: 8.5 inches L x 6.5 inches H (with lid) x 3.75 inches W (mouth of teapot is 2.5 inches)

Capacity: 43 fl oz (1220ml)

During Queen Victoria's reign, tea became a symbol of Britain's greatest period of expansion and stability. Every home owned a teapot, even if it was a basic "Brown Betty". Tea was no longer a refined upper class beverage, but the basis of a whole meal. While Charleston dancers and many Victorian glamours have disappeared from the scene, the humble "Brown Betty" has remained a firm favorite. Its origins go back to the to the end of the 17th century and to the birth of the ceramic teapot. In 1700 a small unglazed teapot made of red clay from the Bradwell Woods area of Stoke on Trent was a luxury item costing 12 shillings. Brown Betty teapots are still made from the Terracotta as used by the Elers Brothers in 1695. their method of making was 'jollying' but in later years this became slip casting giving a smooth finish and even thickness. Rocking glaze complies with US FDA and California proposition 65. Succeeding generations of Englishmen have proved that the Brown Betty makes the best pot of tea in the world. The shape of the pot causes the tea leaves to be gently swirled around as the boiling water is added thus producing an exquisite infusion. The red terracotta clay with its Rockingham glaze coddles the brew and gives the perfect cup of tea. Hand Made 6 Cup Brown Betty Christmas Pudding Teapot in Rockingham Brown.
